Arlington is well known for its beautiful homes, outstanding school system, very popular July 4th parade, shopping, great restaurants, long rich history, and the convenience to all amenities, including the downtown area of Columbus. This home pictured, the most expensive sale in UA in the last 3 months, is a Michael Edwards home, just four years old. The floors are dark Brazilian Cherry and there is a grand two story entry with open staircase. The great room has soaring ceilings and the lower level is finished with a full bath. The home has hardwood, tile and some carpeting throughout. This home was listed at 1,065,000.00 and sold under 90 days.

The Worthington Inn is a historic part of downtown Worthington

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Greg Giessler

The Worthington Inn is a historic part of downtown Worthington. Sitting amid the most popular part of downtown Worthington, the Worthington Inn originally dates back to the early 1800s. Though it is not a bed and breakfast/boutique hotel anymore, it is a great place to enjoy fine wines, dinner, and watch live entertainment. The Worthington Inn incorporates traditional, authentic décor with a menu to please even the most esteemed of palates. Offering brunch, lunch and dinner, with live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, the atmosphere is always that of perfection.

Recently the Inn converted the hotel rooms into condominiums to create upscale living in the heart of downtown Worthington. Overall, there have been eight units finished in exceptional quality. If you are looking to live in an exquisite community within walking distance to the village green, summer farmers market, Old Worthington shops, and much more, then this is the place for you!

Marathon in training... week three

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Greg Giessler

Marathon in Training week three: Once again week three found me away from Columbus, Ohio and missing the Saturday morning session with the Marathon In Training group. However, I did get in my long run for the week in Mohican State Park which is located in southern Ashland County close to Loudonville, Ohio. The park covers 1,110 acres with 5 glorious miles of the beautiful Clear Fork and Mohican rivers making their way through it. The park provides many opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast including hiking, fishing, and camping. As well, Mohican State Park offers a resort lodge and cottages.

Gary Williams, the president of our Dublin-Worthington Rotary, picked me up Saturday morning at 3:30 a.m. and we drove to the park. Gary is training to run the Mohican 100 mile Trail Run which is this coming weekend. We arrived at the park and started running. Overall, we were on the trails for around 5 and half hours and in total ran 24 plus miles. To say the least it was a great way to start a Saturday! Well, for me it was a great excuse to accomplish absolutely nothing the rest of the day!

If you are interested in experiencing the outdoors within an hour and a half from Columbus, Ohio I highly recommend Mohican State Park. Quite a few opportunities exist for your outdoor entertainment!

Safety City in Worthington, Ohio

Posted to Columbus Suburbs

"Safety City" marks the right of passage for many children ages four and five living in Worthington. These four and five year old pedestrians are taking it to the streets of downtown Old Worthington, that is, a replica of the town, so that they can learn about street safety when walking or riding their bikes. Safety City is a two hour class for two weeks offered every summer. Through this program children also learn about many other safety issues such as poison, water, personal and fire safety.

To learn more about Worthington and its surrounding areas you can contact Leigh Reynolds at 614-523-6638 or email her by clicking here. View homes for sale in the worthington, ohio area by clicking here.

Golfing is everywhere in Central Ohio

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Phil Giessler

Golfing is everywhere in Central Ohio. Some say there are more greens per capita in the Columbus area than in any other non resort community in the United States. Jack Nicklaus’ designed Muirfield Golf Club gains most of the attention as the location of the annual Memorial Tournament which is considered a near Major on the PGA Tour.

If a giant golf course community is not your choice, there is an enclave of luxury estate homes that has private golfing opportunities in its own community. Wingate Farms, just a few minutes north of Columbus in the Olentangy School District offers three holes for the owners, no tee times required here. The residences on acre plus lots have recent home sales from $700,000.00 and up in to the millions. Other amenities offered are tennis, sheltered picnic areas and walking trails. I found this family (pictured on the left) enjoying the golf and play areas.

I do not live in Wingate but if I wanted privacy and wanted the unique benefits - there is no better place to be in the Columbus area. Oh, I do have two listings here so maybe this sounds a little like an advertisement, but it is an amazing luxury residential find.

K-1 Education Program Showcases Africa

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Real Estate Markets

What’s new in New Albany, Ohio?

How about the inspirational first grade SAIL classroom of Shelley Cervantes? Throughout the school year, the K-1 building has been learning about Africa, African animals, rainforests, culture, and more, in conjunction with the Partners In Conservation. PIC is a program that began with the Columbus Zoo.

Mrs. Cervantes' class took their learning to the next level and planned their own “African Celebration” which was held in their classroom. The SAIL program has encouraged the children to use their imagination and learn through “real life” situations. They put their freshly honed skills into a complete celebration beginning with invitations delivered to their parents.

Growing up right next to a historical site in Worthington, Ohio

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Real Estate Markets

Not many people can say they grew up right next to an Indian Mound as I did here in Worthington, Ohio. The Indian Mound was a focal point of play and exploration for me, my brothers, sister, and the other neighborhood kids. Whenever giving directions to my house I would always say "My house is the one next to the Indian Mound" of course, that would take some by surprise. Many people never even realized there was an Indian Mound in the heart of Worthington.

With careful thought and dedication The Jeffers, who owned the land the Indian Mound sits upon, made it their mission to protect this site even as they sold off lots for a small number of homes to be built around the area over 35 years ago. Upon the death of Mrs. Jeffers this site was donated to the Worthington Historical Society and will forever be protected.

House Wine: Worthington’s wine shop

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Greg Giessler

House Wine (the newest addition in downtown Worthington, Ohio) offers a vast assortment of fine wines and micro-brewed beers. House Wine stocks over 250 different wine labels picked by the owners and staff. The House Wine staff is extremely knowledgeable and more than willing to be of assistance in purchasing your wine or beer of choice. It is the perfect place for beginners to have a wonderful first time experience or for the wine aficionado. You can enjoy the wine on location for a $5 corkage fee or take your beverage of choice home with you.

House Wine also has the only Enomatic wine serving system in central Ohio. The Enomatic system gives people the ability to purchase a wine card, insert the card into the Enomatic machine, press a button and get served their wine of choice. It is a great way to sample a variety of wines before making the decision of which bottle to purchase or to purchase one at all.

The Thursday evening wine tasting and occasional beer tasting offers an enjoyable evening to sample different varieties of wines or beer. The first beer tasting was of the Bell’s Brewery out of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Samples included the Bell’s Winter White Ale, Two-Hearted Pale Ale, and porter, and double cream stout. This Thursday, May 21st, House Wine will be having another beer tasting of seasonal summer beers, including Bell’s Oberon, Bell’s Lager, Hop Sun Summer Wheat, raspberry wheat and a few other fine choices.

Weather permitting House Wine has an excellent outdoor patio to enjoy your beverage of choice. House Wine also offers Sangria to enjoy during the Worthington Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. I hope to see you there!

Looking for a bakery in the Worthington, Ohio area?

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Phil Giessler

I used to tell my college friends that my hometown in NW Ohio was famous for 13 bakeries……not true but a fun story. In truth, my current home Worthington does boast a variety of bakeries where you can find a favorite sweet. North at the Rt. 23/270 crossing, the local Kroger store, newly remodeled into a super store, has a great array of tasty choices in the story bakery... Just across 23 is the COSI restaurant which sells their standard morning fare. Travel south on High you will find the newly established Holiday Baking where Chef Lisa Schaber prepares her daily dainties. Lisa comes from years of supplying cookies at Clintonville Farmers Market as well as local restaurants in Columbus. Her specialty is beautiful hand painted cookies which ladies and children will delight in. It is our understanding that Lisa has some surprises in store for her bakery soon. A bit farther down 23 you will discover the tried and true Mrs. Goodman’s. The bakery has recently sold to a new owner but remains solid with the wedding cake, scones, amazing pies and special traditional cookie offerings. Then, just south of Rt. 161 is La Chatelaine. This is a true French Bakery with desserts to tease you and fill you with sweetness. The Subway shop in downtown sells the huge variety of cookies which are a great finish to the healthy meals you can buy there. Visit Worthington, Ohio for the best sweets in town! All of these locations are within walking distance of our colonial office style building at 882 High St., Worthington, Ohio, Cam Taylor Co., Realtors. Keep in mind the 3 local Starbucks locations which offer goodies, as well!

The Olentangy Trail

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Greg Giessler

The Olentangy Multi-use trail is a 12.75 mile trail extending from Worthington Hills to downtown Columbus at the Confluence Park. Access to the trail is prevalent throughout Worthington, Clintonville, and The Ohio State University campus area. Many parks inclusive of the Worthington Hills Park, Clinton-Como Park, Whetstone Park, Northmoor Park, Tuttle Park, Confluence Park, and Antrim Park provide green spaces for people to stop along the way and/or drive to, to provide recreation, inspiration, and relaxation. Antrim Park has an extra 1.2 mile loop around Antrim Lake, which is a walking/running trail only.

Many marathon training groups and people walking with dogs and children enjoy the loop and the trails. It seems to be a popular spot to take a water break and chat with friends. Learn more using this Google Search

Pioneer Day in Worthington, Ohio

Posted to Columbus Attractions, Columbus Suburbs

What fun it was to drive by the Orange Johnson home in Worthington and see the third graders playing games (typical pioneer games) dressed in costume. The Orange Johnson House is Worthington’s finest example of early architecture. Orange Johnson was born in 1790 and came to Worthington in 1814 as a comb maker.

Today, the Orange Johnson home is a museum open to the public and enjoyed by many students in Worthington and neighboring schools. The Worthington Historical tried to acquire the site but the expense was too great. In 1963 the property was bought by Toll Gate Square upon which Toll Gate Condos were built. They were one of the first condos built in Worthington. They are very popular as you can walk downtown and enjoy our wonderful village.

22 Prospective Buyers Visit Historic Property - E. South St. Worthington, Ohio

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Homes for Sale, Real Estate Markets

The Greater Worthington Realtor Association held their third monthly Twilight Tour of Open houses Thursday May 16, 2008. More than 22 prospective buyers visited the historic house on 300 E South St. in Worthington, Ohio - including a great granddaughter of a former owner.

Current stories relate to enclosing the front porch area to accommodate multiple beds for young boys in need. Yesterday we learned that it was her great grandmother who did do this to help her many young cousins in need. Of course it looks very different now, but what a story!

This beautiful 3 bedroom/2 bath home overlooks Rush Creek and you can enjoy great views in all directions. The kitchen has been completely renovated and beautiful hardwood flooring is located throughout the home.

The McConnell Arts Center of Worthington - Open in Summer of 2009

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Greg Giessler

The McConnell Arts Center of Worthington is the future centerpiece for the arts in this area. Yet to be completed, community leaders, including The Worthington Art Council, the City of Worthington, Worthington Schools, and numerous individuals have committed much time and effort in raising funds for the McConnell art center. The center has had tremendous community support. It will continue to add value to the already exceptional quality of life in the City of Worthington. The arts center will provide a a venue that includes a 220-seat auditorium, classrooms, studios, offices, and exhibit spaces.

The Packard building, where the art center will be located, was named after the architect who built the building, Frank Packard. The Packard building used to be the original Worthington High School. The art center should be open in summer of 2009 or soon there after.

Luxury estate in the private Wingate Farms of Delaware County, Ohio

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Phil Giessler, Real Estate Markets

I met Ben Corcoran, (SCRP of the Appraisal Group) at the luxury estate built by Paul Craver in the private Wingate Farms of southern Delaware County. The flowers looked beautiful and Scotts Lawn Service had just worked on the yard - it looks awesome. I invited Ben out to measure both the main house and the separate carriage garage that includes a full apartment. He’s going to provide a cad cam layout for marketing purposes. The infra red tool that he uses to obtain the interior measurements is called a Leica Disto laser. Pretty neat device! Ben commented that the architectural features and the plantation style design are unusual for the general Columbus, Ohio market.

Luxury home market residences are usually so large that pictures do not provide enough information for the savvy internet user. We feel that the addition of the cad cam layout and other images are necessary to market these estates. A probable buyer for this estate (or others above the $1,000,000.00 price point) is someone being relocated to the Columbus, Ohio market. We know that the web is the first source for many buyers - especially those transferring from out of state. Therefore, a thorough and unique on line presentation is necessary.

Worthington, Ohio's "one of a kind" CVS... coming soon!

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Phil Giessler, Real Estate Markets

You might find a CVS on every corner but in Worthington the new CVS under construction is one of a kind. Replacing the long standing local grocery store, this structure is fitting of the Olde Worthington aura. The all brick traditional style with parking in the back will beautify the corner and should attract shoppers to the CVS as well as the additional space adjoining. It is rumored that there will be apartments upstairs which should attract young or old - anyone wanting to be where the action is in downtown Worthington. We are looking forward to welcoming our new CVS to the corner down the street.

New Restaurant Coming to Worthington, Ohio

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Phil Giessler, Real Estate Markets

Here is the new restaurant being completed in Worthington. Jason Liu, a successful restaurateur in Dublin, is planning to open his Worthington location in July of 2008. The exterior is nearly complete and work seems to be going on around the clock. It looks like one of the more elaborate and probably most expensive ground up restaurants I have seen. The copper gutters and flashing accents the white trim and brick facing. Unique to the typical Worthington colonial architectural style is the big pineapple seen on the front of the building. My understanding is the pineapple is a welcome sign. If the food is as good as the Dublin shop this place will be very busy.

Worthington, Powell, Upper Arlington, Clintonville, Lewis Center and Westerville will probably be the sources of customers for this easily accessible location on North High Street near the I-270 Rt. 23 interchange. The Cam Taylor Co. agents will be having our “wine and whine” and “beer and cheer” meeting there as soon as they open. We will provide a review.

What are farmers doing in Worthington, Ohio?

Posted to Columbus Suburbs, Phil Giessler, Real Estate Markets

It is part of the unique traditions of this community, which was founded by a group of New Englanders in 1803 and is one of the oldest in Ohio. Each Saturday morning from mid-May to mid-October, a Farmers Market is held, capturing the spirit of earlier days when farmers brought their crops to market.

Worthington's present-day market lines the streets of downtown Old Worthington drawing each Saturday an estimated 5,000 people who are seeking produce grown locally and throughout Ohio.
