Downtown Columbus Ohio - It's Not Just Football!

Posted to Downtown Columbus, Judy Gray

Thousands of people pounce on Columbus come fall during Ohio State’s football season. No longer is it just about OSU football, but now Columbus is gaining notoriety as a “happening urban center.” Part of that is due to the Short North area. Much like the north end of Boston, our north end is filled with restaurants, shops and art galleries. Initiated 20 years ago and still happening today, the first Saturday of every month the Short North hosts “The Gallery Hop.” The galleries house not only local artist’s works, but national and international artists as well. Come December the Gallery becomes the “Holiday Hop” with all the festive trimmings of the season.

There are singers, dancers, stage characters of all kind who add to the celebratory atmosphere. Come join the thousands and experience the sights, sounds, food, art galleries and boutique shops the Short North has to offer.

Sound like a fun place to live? Well, there are a number of downtown housing options. From luxury condominiums to urban style lofts, there are many choices to be found in the Arena District, Brewery District, Short North, Italian Village, Market Exchange District and the River South District. Arena District Kickball - Fun Columbus Sports

Posted to Columbus Attractions, Downtown Columbus, Greg Giessler

What do you get when a cow and a chicken mate? Brown chicken brown cow! (said with a little twang of bow chicka bow wow.) As well, you get the team name of our Arena District Kickball team. Yesterday marked the first game of our summer kickball season! The game was played in McFerson Commons located near North Bank Park, The North Bank Condominiums, and Burnham Square in downtown Columbus. The league is sponsored by the Frog Bear and Wild Boar Bar.

Team Brown Chicken Brown Cow started the season with an unimpressive performance. Somehow, team Saved by the Balls was able to score at will against our inexperienced field play. When it was all said and done team Saved by the Balls had scored eighteen points while team Brown Chicken Brown Cow had a big zero. Some might call that that a goose egg or for our purposes a chicken egg! Despite not scoring a single point Brown Chicken Brown Cow managed to have a good time! Though we have a lot of work to do on the field, I am sure Brown Chicken Brown Cow will be able to make up for it in after game festivities win or lose!

Our team is comprised of over twenty players that are somehow connected through work at, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Camp Akita, or because someone was able to persuade them to come out and play kickball. I mean, who wouldn’t want to come out and play kickball, right? All in all, it was a great time and provided a place to meet new people and reconnect with some old friends!

Columbus Ohio - A great place to call home

Posted to Downtown Columbus

The city of Columbus is located on the banks of the Scioto and Olentangy Rivers in Central Ohio. It is the capital of the state, as well as its largest city with a population of over 730,000 and a metropolitan population of nearly two million. Columbus has been frequently ranked as one of the United States’ best cities due to its consistently strong economy, high quality of life, exceptional schools, and welcoming communities. A star of the Midwest in the business sector, Columbus boasts 15 Fortune 1000 companies and six Fortune 500 companies, as well as many major employers such as four outstanding healthcare systems and 20 colleges and universities. The city also applauds entrepreneurs; thousands of new businesses successfully open their doors in Columbus every year. But unlike many other large cities, Columbus is not all about work, work, work; in fact, Columbusites pride themselves on their laid back Midwestern attitude and their ability to live life to its fullest. Due to the city’s affordable median home price and cost of living that falls way below the national average, residents of Columbus get more for their money—which means spending less time trying to make ends meet and more time having fun. Columbus offers many world-class attractions including museums and art galleries, intimate music and theater venues, and sporting events to get every sports fan up and cheering. In addition to its lucrative careers and exciting recreation, Columbus also offers warm and friendly neighborhoods that provide a safe atmosphere for growing families. The city’s K-12 education system contains some of the best schools in the nation, and has 53 public school districts and 140 private and parochial schools. Columbus also boasts many youth programs and activities throughout the city, and has 65 public libraries that are highly dedicated to enhancing every child’s education. With such a long list of features, Columbus truly is a city that runs with the best in the U.S. Whether you are a single professional, a student, a young family, or an empty nester, Columbus is a great place to call home.

Downtown Columbus

Posted to Downtown Columbus

Real estate in Downtown Columbus appeals to those who love to live in the middle of the action. Downtown residents enjoy being within close proximity to all of their favorite restaurants, clubs, theaters and attractions. And with the potential for shorter commutes to and from work, they have more time to take advantage of what the city center has to offer. Some of the welcoming, distinctive residential neighborhoods that make up the heart of Columbus are:

  • Arena District
  • Brewery District
  • Discovery District
  • German Village
  • Harrison West I* talian Village
  • Market Exchange District
  • Merion Village
  • Olde Towne East
  • The Short North
  • University District
  • Victorian Village
  • Weinland Park
  • Woodland Park

Some of Columbus’ most unique neighborhoods are the historical districts such as Victorian Village and German Village. These areas are well-known for their strong, welcoming communities and eccentric cultural and architectural flair. Victorian Village boasts some of the finest examples of homes that originated in the Victorian Era, including impressive 2.5-3 story brick homes that show off architecture typical to that period plus many worldly design features. The community of Victorian Village has been historically diverse with people from all different backgrounds, incomes and lifestyles. German Village, which was established by early German settlers in the early 1800s, now contains a mix of people with different heritages and occupations who come together frequently for events and festivals such as the Haus and Garden Tour and Oktoberfest. The neighborhood’s housing trademark is the quaint and sturdy brick cottage.
